In all fish farms, the cost of supplemental food is the greatest recurring cost and it is in the interest of the farmer to get a good return on this investment in terms of fish weight gain.

The aquatic species covered in this course are those that have commercial value in the Southern African context. Examples used throughout the text have been chosen from many different sectors of the industry in an attempt to illustrate the general principles of aquaculture nutrition.

Course Objective

The objective of this course is to make the subject of Aquaculture Nutrition accessible by making it readable. It set out to do this by taking students from the basics of digestion and absorption, through nutrient needs of aquatic animals and how they are met by the combination of the various feed ingredients available by means of formulation and manufacturing.

The course registration is open for any person interested in aquaculture nutrition and the feeding of aquaculture species.

In this course participants will learn to:
